A cut-out cock is placed under each brake valve in the brake pipe to-enable the engineer to cut his valve out in case of double heading. 3o--Explain the difference between an angle cock and a cut-out cock? VVhen used? The difference between an angle cock and a cutout cock is that they are of a different shape. An angle cock is used on the end of the brake pipe on each car and is open when parallel with pipe. A cut-out cock is used in the signal pipes and in a cross over pipe, and is open when at right angle to the pipe. 31--V/hat is the duty of the pressure retaining valve? How many different kinds in use?, The duty of the pressure retaining valve is to "educe the pressure gradually and to hold a certain amount in the brake cylinder while releasing and recharging. 32--Would the absence of a retainer render the brake on a car inoperative? The proper piston travel for driver brakes is from 4 to 6 and on tender brakes from 6 to 8 inches. 34--Can a plain triple valve on driver or tender cause train brakes to go into quick action when a service application is being made?
