Smith, IV is the co-founder of MerchantCircle and Spoke Software. Smith is co-founder and Chairman of MerchantCircle, the largest social network of local business owners, for which he has raised $14 million. In early 2010, MerchantCircle announced it had signed its millionth merchant to the local business network. Smith spent a significant portion of his career at A.T. Kearney as a Partner, during which time he was named one of the 25 most influential consultants in the world. In 1999, he served as Interim CEO of Casbah, an EDS-funded B2B start-up. The Casbah funding was made by Smith when he was still with EDS and A.T. Kearney. Shortly after Smith joined the company, the assets were sold off to NextSet. The company shut down shortly afterwards and Nextset was eventually sold to ITE. After the terrorist attacks of 9/11, Smith served the Bush administration helping to organize the response to 9-11 and create the Transportation Security Administration as a Senior Advisor for Strategy and Planning to the Secretary of Transportation alongside Kip Hawley.
