Favourite Quote: “Loving someone always requires you to not love others.”
I picked this book up because of the Hunger Games. There was debate over the author coping Battle Royale, so I had to read it for myself and discover my own opinion. Overall I think there are a lot of similarities but are enough differences that makes each book unique and they shouldn’t be compared.
Onto the actual book review, I liked this book. I didn’t love it and that upset me as I went in with high hopes! The plot was great, it moved at a good pace, there was a lot of action sequences (the violence in this book is quite horrific but I loved it!), there were some twists I never seen coming and I was satisfied with the ending! As for the world building, I didn’t completely understand how it all worked but that didn’t really affect my reading!
It was the characters that were my major problem. I found it hard to connect with any of them and perhaps it was because of the language translation. Some of the English was pretty bad and that affected my enjoyment of the book. I did like a couple of the characters (one of whom died…wasn’t happy with that) but in the end, I felt there were sometimes one dimensional or were like robots. The main enemies in the book were great though, I loved to hate them. There was also a lot of insta-love or unrequited love in this book, which got a bit ridiculous as time went on.
Overall this book was okay. I loved the plot and the violence but the characters and some of the writing were a let down. I would still recommend this to others if they are looking for an action book! My final rating for this book is 3/5 stars!show more
