Description

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Balkan Bulgarian Airlines Flight LZ307 was a scheduled international passenger flight from Sofia, Bulgaria, to Moscow in the Soviet Union, that crashed on its final approach to Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport on 3 March 1973, killing all 25 passengers and crew on board. The aircraft involved was an Ilyushin Il-18, manufacturer's serial number 182005602, registered as LZ-BEM, which first flew in 1962. The aircraft crashed while on final approach only a few kilometers short of the runway. Significant icing on the tailplane caused an eventual loss of movement capability and subsequently a loss of pitch control by the crew. Around 12:45 p.m. the Ilyushin suddenly descended below the glidepath and struck the ground.show more
