for SATB, and organ or piano This is a gentle and highly attractive setting of the medieval Latin hymn, suitable for church choirs at any communion service or for Lent, Passiontide, or Corpus Christi. With a delicate expressive melody, rich harmony, and a flowing accompaniment, it offers an appealing alternative to more familiar settings. It is part of the composer's Passiontide work, Wondrous Cross.

Review quote

Bullard, although at first following Elgar's precedent of a (very attractive) theme sung by sopranos and repeated by full choir, takes a Mozartian approach to the text: his writing is warmly gentle, notwithstanding its climax on 'mortis'. There is no final tail section of 'O clemens, O pie, O dulcis'. * James L. Montgomery, Sunday by Sunday, December 2012 * His setting for mixed choir and keyboard of the well-known Latin hymn Ave Verum Corpus, so often a spur to morbid inwardness, is here warm yet true to the text's darker moments. * Matthew Greenall, Classical Music, November 2011 *
