A grand stairway leads up to the main floor from the street level and the first impression of the hall is that of vastness. The rather low ceiling adds to this impression, paradoxical as that may seem. The pillars are in several styles, ranging from the Corinthians with their decorative capitals to square, businesslike columns that are simply utilitarian.
