The volume comprises a careful and excellent introductory study of the central idea of the book, its epic character, the connection and continuity of its parts, and its origin; a new translation; and such notes and comments as seem needful. It can hardly fail to interest and instruct the large circle of readers whom it may attract. Zufii Ceremonials and Melodies. Mr.. Walter Fewkes, from his connection with the Hemenway Southwestern Archaeological Expedition, had peculiarly favorable opportunities to observe the rain dances and other semi-religious summer ceremonies of the Zufiis, such as foot-races, rabbit-hunts, planting of prayer-plumes, and communal burning of pottery.
