It is under 13.5. and therefore invisible in our equatoreal, for about 100 days; but I have good reason to infer from my projection that it does not go below the 14.; mag. in which case it would never be quite lost to a 10 inch object glass. At maximum it is of a dull red colour, but when near its vanishing point is perfectly free from the hazy appearance presented at such times by most other variable stars. A well watched maximum occurred on 1854 Nov. 1, and another in Dec. 1855. A small star (loth mag.) 1'.5 np. 2', being equally afl"ected by the brightness of 6 Cygni, is the best reference star for photometric comparisons with the variable, when they do not differ above 1 or 2 magnitudes in brightness. 43 X Cygni. This star received considerable attention from the Astronomers of the last century, but the irregularity of its changes renders the period still unsatisfactory. Argelander states, that its deviations on the supposition of a uniform period amount to as much as 40 days, but these are very greatly diminished by the help of a formula with 2 perturbations, similar to those given for o Ceti and R Virginia. A valuable paper on this star, by Olbers, is to be found in Schumacher' s Jahrbuch for 1841. A maximum was predicted for 1844 Aug. 10. 44 1; Aquilw. This star, called also 1; Antinoi, is quite regular in its ' period, which, according to Argelander, is 7'I 4" 13" 5 3'.
