Russ is a well-intended dad trying to build a backyard play system for his kids. He feels overwhelmed by the scope of the project, but is determined to finish it to show his neighbor, "Home Depot Dan," that he can do it. His wife, Tammy, tries to talk Russ into hiring somebody else to complete the project. She doesn't want to see him waste a weekend, or an entire summer, trying to make something for his kids when they'd really rather just have him and his time. When his son interrupts with a toad he's found, Russ eventually realizes this moment with his son is more important than finishing his project in the backyard.
