Our customer reviews

The book is written in a conversational tone which makes it an easy read and makes it feel like the author is literally speaking his thoughts to you. There's an even spread in the book of ranting, life experiences (to add credibility to the ranting) and suggestions for actions that can be taken. For an artist, there is a huge plethora of topics covered and within each topic there are new points raised, creative alternatives and up-to-date information. This makes it extremely effective for an artist who's trying to understand the full gamut of what they are doing and what they are expected to do. It also lays a blueprint for things that an artist can actually put down the book and get to work on- and it's not "rehearse your music" but an extended list of specific ways you can vary the way your rehearse to achieve specific ends. My one complaint is the recurring suggestion that artists need to work harder and stop blaming others. I agree with the point, but it occurs so often in the book that it may frustrate readers. If you're too sensitive you may get hung up on the fact he's just called you lazy and spiteful again. Overall I would highly recommend this book, my copy is covered in highlighter which is a good sign that there's a lot of valuable information in there. It was also enjoyable to read despite being a "business" book thanks to the author's writing style.show more
