Review quote

"Art quilts have long since moved from covering beds to hanging on walls, and this collection of 40 artists' works...is ample evidence why. Ranging from the United States and Canada through Europe to Israel, South Africa, Japan and New Zealand, these quilters show the beauty and imagination of fine art and a vast variety of styles and materials....Each artist is represented by 10 works, some with details, as well as the artist's comments on inspirations and the works' meaning....the wealth of color and pattern is worthwhile "--"Publishers Weekly" "In this colorful and masterful survey, 40 outstanding contemporary artists from around the world exhibit their art and share their thoughts and themes. Photo spreads with up to a dozen quilts from each artist are artfully arranged on consecutive pages allowing an in-depth look at the quilts. Artists' photos and a short introduction begin each section, and materials and techniques are provided with each quilt image. This group of artists and their wonderful artwork is sure to impress."--"Quilting Arts Magazine" ""Masters: Art Quilts" ... is a book at the pinnacle of inspiration. "At nearly four pounds, this book is dense with color and inspiration. But the real value lies in the space devoted to each of the 40 artists whose works are included--up to a dozen quilts per artist. This allows readers to see the scope of each quilter's career and to take away a clear understanding of today's art quilt movement." - Quilters Newsletter "Art quilts have long since moved from covering beds to hanging on walls, and this collection of 40 artists' works...is ample evidence why. Our customer reviews

WOW, every page really pops! The quilts are gorgeous and so many different styles are represented. There are landscapes, portraits, geometrics and plenty other creative pieces that make this book not just a great coffee table book to admire but also inspiring to quiltmakers. If you've ever doubted that quilting can be considered art and not just a craft form, Masters: Art Quilts will convince you. The pieces are remarkable, the details in some of them are truly amazing. The book was so well curated, the range of artist and the variation of some artists' repertoire really make this a great collection and a collectible in itself. No wonder there is a second volume now! Can't wait to see it. My only complaint is that the photos (beautiful!) don't do the quilts justice. They are beautiful and look like paintings. Visually, they are very easy to appreciate. However, the textures of the quilts are somewhat lost in the 2D photos. Nevertheless, a wonderful book to savor.show more
