Description

Swiss comedian and cabaret artist Ursus Wehrli loves organisation in the extreme. In 'The Art of Clean Up' he arranges a bowl of alphabet soup, a group of pool-goers, a spruce branch and other elements of our chaotic world into neat rows sorted by colour, size, shape or type.

About Ursus Wehrli

Ursus Wehrli is a left-handed, broad-thinking, professional typographer. His first book, Tidying Up Art, is a visionary manifesto that took well-known artworks and put them back together in his more rational, more organized, and cleaner form of modern art. In this book, The Art of Clean Up, Wehrli extended his discerning eye into the physical world to tidy up common daily situations. He is currently working on sorting things that are normally too big to organise.

Review quote

"Ever wish your alphabet soup was actually legible? Your fruit salad arranged into rows? Maybe not, but there's something undeniably pleasing about The Art of Clean Up, a photo book by Swiss comedian and visual artist Ursus Wehrli." -- People magazine "Ever wish your your alphabet soup was actually legible? Your fruit salad arranged into rows? Maybe not, but there's something undeniably pleasing about The Art of Clean Up, a photo book by Swiss comedian and visual artist Ursus Wherli. Wherli spent two years putting everyday objects - flower, cars in a parking lot, needles from a pine bough - into meticulous order and then photographing them." - Janine Rayford, People "The photographs are not only visually compelling, but they serve as a fascinating look into an alternative reality in which chaos has given way to careful geometry." - Cool Hunting "Organizers, prepare to swoon." - Fast Company.com "Brilliant.... There's a cumulative humor to these bright, sharp photographs, and a deep puckish cleverness in Wehrli's choices. It's the rare art book that provokes laughs, while still earning admiration for color and composition; it's funny and beautiful. " - The A.V. Club "At once utterly delightful and playfully philosophical." - Brain Pickings "A surprise on every spread.... The book is a great example of how a compulsion for obsession can make for obsessively interesting art." - NYTimes.com
