Excerpt from Annual Report of the Selectmen, Overseers of the Poor and Town Treasurer of the Town of Montague, 1887-88 We would state in way of explanation that at the Town M ceting in December, we were authorized to borrow the sum of eight thousand dollars to meet the bills caused by the' J ulv freshet, and the repairs of the two suspension bridges. We borrowed the sum of five thousand dollars of the Crock er Institution for Savings for three years, from January 1st 1888, in accordance with the vote of the Town, but finding after paying all the out standing bills a sufficient surplus in the Treasury, we have paid the expenses on the two suspension bridges, viz.
