Description

Excerpt from Annual Report of the Receipts and Expenditures of the City of Manchester, Together With the School Report, for the Year, 1864 The paving of Elm street meets with such general favor, that I am sure I do but repeat the common sentiment when I recommend the continuance of the work the present year, to such an extent as shall seem advisable. The improvement made in watering our streets the past season has been quite marked and although it may seem to many a trifling matter, I think every one having business on Elm street can bear witness to the comfort and convenience as well as the pecuniary value of well-watered streets, dur ing the heat and dust of summer. That our streets should be well lighted is also a matter of consequence, and some changes in that direction may possibly be Of advantage.
