During this time, he also served as a appellate law clerk, a public defender, and a special master in Chancery. He was elected a circuit judge in the tenth circuit in 1970. In 1980, he was elected to the appellate court, third district. He was elected to the supreme court in 1990 and served as chief justice from January to May of 1997.
