Review quote

Horacek contrasts 20 animals, using flaps, pop-ups, and stylish mixed-media paintings to highlight the differences between them. ... [E]ven if readers guess what opposite term is coming up next (if not the animal), they'll find the execution delightful.
--Publishers Weekly (starred review) An elegant exploration of an ever-popular subject.
--Kirkus Reviews (starred review) Pairs of oppositional adjectives are partnered with Horácek's vibrant mixed-media illustrations of animals in spreads enhanced by pop-up elements. ... [T]he pop-ups are stunning in not only their construction and positioning but also in the motion of their revelation.
--Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books Kids will love the engaging illustrations and will be drawn to the book again and again despite the simple content because of the hands-on manipulations. Great fun.
--School Library Journal ...Horacek's is one of the best [pop-up books] out there -- expertly conceived and constructed. The pages don't just pop-up; they come to life.
--The Atlantic Wire Animal opposites are presented in a fabulously fun and totally interactive way, with colorful, almost childlike illustrations. Children will learn important concepts and maybe be inspired to draw their own animals large and small, slow and fast, heavy and light.
--NPR Books Horacek's pop-up book serves a few purposes beautifully. It features animals, including more unusual creatures like sloths and meerkats. It teaches the concept of opposites -- my favorite poses the 'heavy hippo' against the 'light butterfly.'
--The Boston Globe
