Description

for SATB (with divisions) unaccompanied, with optional tambourine This is a spirited arrangement of the popular fourteenth-century carol for mixed voices, with an optional part for tambourine in the final verse. The familiar melody weaves between the vocal parts, and the piece is characterized by medieval harmonies and a rocking thirds motif. An English singing translation is presented alongside the original Latin, allowing choirs to perform the carol in either language.show more

Review quote

Carol Barnett uses the original tune for Angelus ad virginem in an inventive setting, where the tune is passed from voice to voice accompanied by ostinatos or parallel fourths and fifths, creating the effect of a wild medieval dance. * Church Music Quarterly, September 13 * A familiar Irish melody (with both Latin and English texts) is given a charming, jubilant setting. Carol Barnett has a wonderful way of offering joy in her writing, and your choir will enjoy this setting that builds and builds to a great climax. Medium difficulty. * Philip Brunelle, American Guild of Organists Journal, Sept 13 *show more
