Birmingham, after a burst of speed that carried them up to second _place from eighth, have slipped back again and are battling it out with National Capital, Mound City, Battleboro, Roberts Island and Centen-nial of Chicago--the latter, by the way, having gradually dropped back to ninth place after occupying the berth of runner-up two weeks ago. High honors for the week go to the Rumford Club of Mexico, Maine, with an aggregate of 492. In Match 13 the Sheridan, Wyoming, out-fit again opened up the space separating them from the runners-up and seem to have matters cinched unless some unusually bad break or let-down in form strikes them during the remaining two weeks. There is a lively scramble for second place in this match and Janesville, Wisconsin, got the best of it this week, outscoring Case Eagle and Ames Faculty, and moving up to the place behind the leaders. The Collegiate race is tightening up and gives promise of a gallery-on-its-feet finish. The University of Pennsylvania is still out in front, but their lead is being cut week by week as a result of the close holding of the Norwich University riflemen and the Oregon Aggies, both of whom outpointed the Philadelphians the fourth week. There is a real Yankee never-say-die spirit evident in the manner in which these teams are plugging away and their example is one that may well be emulated by clubs in which there appears a tendency to say: "What's the use? We can't hope to get anywhere with those people entered. Don't waste the price." Match 16 with its two classes of entries presents a well strung-out field, with St. Johns at the head of the Military Schools and Central High School of Washington, D.
