It was 1841 in South Carolina, two kids of different races meet. Carl Andrews, an African-American boy and Emily Johnson, a white girl, meet each other after Carl was beaten badly by some white kids. This started a great friendship between the children. One day, Emily's father came home and sees Carl for the first time, he drags Carl outside of the house, beating him until he dies slowly. 12 years later in 1853, Carl Andrews now a 'Slave'. Is trying to survive without being with his sister Deborah who is also a Slave.
