Such a wide range of physical ability among boys of practically the same weight is almost beyond our comprehension. It would hardly be expected that between two boys of about the same age and weight one would be able to throw the baseball 157 feet farther than the other, but such was the case. The following graphs show in a more vivid way the relative standing of the highest and lowest in each of the events in each weight class. The graphs on the right represent the standing of the lowest in each weight class and those on the left the standing of the champions. The numbers at the ends of the lines indicate the weight class which that line represents. The lines representing the champions for each class except the unlimited class are very closely clustered together. The lines representing the poorest in each class are much more widely separated; particularly in the dashes and the baseball throw. A closer study of the lines of both these tables reveals to us that the lines have a tendency to converge in the jumping events and to separate in the dashes and the baseball throw. This would indicate that boys differ more in their ability to run and to throw the baseball than they do in their ability to jump. The graphs for the lowest boys in each class show that every boy in this group, except one, had a standing of zero or less in from one to four of the events. In fact, the boy in the 125-lb. class went as low as a minus 55 in the 100-yard dash; a minus 3 in the running broad jump; a minus 85 in the running high jump, and a minus 85 in the baseball throw.
