Excerpt: ...Church in America and other Affiliated bodies, The NATIONAL LUTHERAN COUNCIL 1.--The value of reconstruction depends upon the worthiness of the purposes contemplated; the soundness of the plans adopted for the realization of those purposes, and the purity of spirit in which the task is undertaken. 2.--The success of reconstruction depends upon the clearness with which purposes are conceived; the understanding of the conditions under which reconstruction must be prosecuted; the effectiveness of the means employed; and the determination of those who set themselves to the task. 3.--Those purposes are worthy in reconstruction, and those only, which contemplate the universal betterment of mankind, in the light of eternity as well as of time, making the salvation of the individual soul the thing of prime importance. 4.--The soundness of plans in reconstruction depends upon their agreement with the divine plan for humanity, and their consistency with the principles declared in the divine revelation. 5.--Purity of spirit can be secured only through that submission to the Holy Spirit which will allow Him to regenerate the heart, and renovate it of pride, prejudice and every form of evil and selfishness. 6.--Worthy purposes in reconstruction can be conceived clearly only through the divinely enlighteened study of the ultimate divine purpose for humanity. 7.--The only means effective in that basic reconstruction upon which the whole superstructure must rest if it is to stand, is the Word of God, the Holy Scriptures, through which the Holy Spirit enlightens, regenerates and endues human hearts and minds for the fulfillment of the divine purposes and plans, to which all worthy reconstruction must conform....show more
