Excerpt from American Book-Prices Current, 1899: A Record of Books, Manuscripts, and Autographs Sold at Auction in New York, Boston, and Philadelphia, From September 1, 1898, to September 1, 1899, With the Prices Realized; Compiled From the Auctioneers' Catalogues
As will be seen by this list, the number of sales held in New York much exceeds those held elsewhere. In justice to Boston and Philadelphia we should, however, state that while their sales are in progress they generally hold two sessions a day, while in New York there is rarely more than a single session.
The issues of the Kelmscott Press have shown, during the year, a more remarkable advance in price than any other class of books. In previous volumes of our compilation these books have been entered alphabetically under the author's name and distributed throughout the volume. They are now, however, all entered under Kelmscott Press. We have also added records of sales of the same books in London at several important sales which have taken place during the year.
