HE past year has shown continued growth in all art interests throughout the country; the average quality of work has been higher and the sales in excess of former years.
In this, the second issue of the american art annual, the special feature is the addition of a quarterly diary including the principal events of the art world as far as announced up to October loth, 1899. This feature is sure to appeal to artists and those in any way connected with art matters.
The Editor has endeavored, in the part devoted to reports of Mu scums and Art Societies, to give the important events of the season of 1898-1899 as shown by the latest annual report of each society. The arrangement is in alphabetical order according to cities, and where an article is somewhat more complete it is because the secretary of the society has prepared a fuller report.
