Excerpt: ...It is not to be supposed that a plan. which in similar form has been so eminently successful in other cities, will fail for want of necessary legislation, surroundings healthful..lost of us spend the greater part of our lives indoors, and it is therefore necessary that we should seek out and adopt every precaution that goes for a better sanitary surrounding. Possibly the most insidious of germ-bearing elements is the air we breathe. The very dust under our feet is laden with gemis, more or less, and where this dust is allowed to accumulate, absorb dampness and attract vermin it becomes a constant menace. In the modern buildings the architect realizes the necessity for the use in construction of some material that will conduce toward good sanitation, resist the attack of moisture, and that will also be vermin-proof, insulating and sound-deadening. The combining of all these necessary factors in one material is what the Ilydrex Felt & Engineering Co., of 120 Liberty St., New York, believes has been accomplished in Sanifior. This felt has a flexible coating or veneer on both sides. which hermetically seals and makes water-proof the two surfaces. This prevents, it is claimed, the absorption of moisture and makes it obnoxious to mice or other vermin. which will not eat the coating. The Ilydrex Felt & Engineering Co., manufacturers of this material, will send to architects, on request, a sample of Saniflor, together with full description of this interesting product.
