The beauty of the scene is well worth the voyage if " nary bass is taken." Arrived below the Swift Shoal dam, we plunge into the ford and cross over, the best casting places being on the east side of the stream. As the vehicle progresses into the water my " Frankfort" is attached to a ten-ounce Henshall and a three-inch chub is given play in the rapids some eighty feet below. No hungry devourer comes his way, however, and he is reeled in unhurt on the.opposite bank. " Boys, there is a fine eddy there at the east end of the dam which I must try." Making my way through the dense growth of weeds find myself on the edge of the pool, which has been much contracted since my last visit. The chub is dropped at the uppermost turn in the eddy and has only proceeded about two feet when there is a swish of the line, a gentle spin on the reel and then a halt. My fine fellow has but little sea room. He has proceeded not more than five feet and he stops to turn and swallow his sweet morseL Now tie starts again. A slight lift of the tip with gentle pressure gives dim the steel and he makes a startled dash for the opposite bank. He wishes now he were in the broad waters of the dam above, and for the moment so do I; but I have not long to ponder. Finding shallow water within twenty feet of his start he turns about promptly and quick work must be done on the reel to prevent his reaching that log which has anchored itself near the centre of the pool.
