Most children already know something about animals and this kit provides an opportunity for them to develop their existing areas of interest and research new areas of knowledge and understanding. Children learn what makes mammals different from other animals and take a closer look at the characteristics of primates, cats, dogs and bats. Projects in the teacher's guide to using the kit are devoted to feeding habits, habitats, social life and adaptations for survival encourage children to find parallels between the behaviour of humans and other mammals. Contents of this kit include: a set of seven full-colour, laminated "Help!" cards to aid the process of planning a project, using an information book, experimenting, writing about animals and proofreading; 15 photocopiable project planner cards on planning a presentation and revising a draft; a curriculum booklet; and a storage box.
