Review quote

Children's LiteratureWhat a bonanza, ten mini pictures books about machines that should delight any young child. They have all been previously published and some of the comments from Children's Literature reviewers about these books are reprised in this review. Busy Boats offers an opportunity to learn about the various types of boats that ply the seas, rivers, and lakes. From something as simple as a dinghy or rowboat, to great ocean liners, Mitton and Parker introduce boats and boating. The fire alarm sounds and the firemen, (an assortment of anthropomorphic animals), put on their yellow gear and jump into the fire truck in Flashing Fire Engines. They roar to the scene with sirens howling and, once there, put out the flames and rescue an occupant of the enflamed building. The rhyming text will appeal to young listeners and the bright, amusing illustrations are filled with things to discuss. Amazing Airplanes describes events from the arrival at the airport to unloading from the plane; the reader will find easy-to-read text with cute illustrations that allow the detail to be explained in an easy-to-understand format. Tremendous Tractors and Tough Trucks feature Rabbit, Bird, and Mouse who strut their stuff on the farm using the plow, the harrow, the roller, the seed drill, the mower, and the bailer as well as driving heavy eighteen-wheeler rigs--not to mention garbage trucks, dump trucks, tankers (carrying milk, of course), and tow trucks for when the others break down. Terrific Trains presents clever, rhyming text, and bold, cartoon-like illustrations that enliven this book, which describes various kinds of trains and related accessories. Richard Scary-typeanimals add interest to theaction-packed descriptions of various kinds of trains in motion. Dazzling Diggers will satisfy any child who is fascinated by large trucks and machinery. A variety of "diggers" are vibrantly illustrated scooping, crashing, digging, and building. Roaring Rockets features a delightful rhyme and vivid artwork that combine in this book to provide information about rockets--how they work, where they travel, and what they do. Children will delight in the word play as they join a trio of wacky animals as they blast off into space. In Super Submarines, animal crew members dressed in their sailor best happily work on various aspects of piloting and maintaining a sub. Rhyming text explains how the vessel descends below the surface, uses sonar for navigation, and transports the crew to various missions, such as salvaging sunken wrecks or rescuing divers. Our customer reviews

What a terrific present! We bought these for our 2 year old son for his birthday, and he absolutely loves them. In particular, the Dazzling Diggers gets a real work-out, reading it every bed-time (day and night!). Highly recommended - the books are a great size - I was imagining they'd be tiny, but they're around 14cm x 14cm and the pictures are great too. I've since bought 3 more sets to give away as gifts.show more

This series of books are excellent for all little boys approx 2-6yrs. My boys have loved them for years and I highly recommend them for all types of boys. The language is catchy with rhyming sentences that flow like a song. The illustrations follow through all the books using the same sweet animal characters. There's hidden messages that probably only adults can pick up like number plates creating a message to the reader. The books have a final page that gives excellent information about the topic being discussed eg, Tough Trucks- mentions all the parts of the truck using their proper names to educate the reader in the correct terminology, great for Mum's to learn about "pistons" and "reticulated trucks" etc! Don't leave childhood without reading some if not all these books..we all love them in our home. Enjoy!show more

This is the perfect gift for any car crazy boy! My 2 year old loves all of the stories! The books are smaller versions of the larger individual books and contain rhyming phrases that are fun to read and make sense. They also provide great information about the specific vehicles. I will be buying more for birthday presents!!show more

They are clearly his favourite books and have been for a long time. Given to me as a gift from a knowledgeable mother of three, and I've now given them to other new mothers of little boys.
