Excerpt: ...when he says: "A man shall be as rivers of water in a dry place"?2 and again when he says: "There the glorious Lord will be unto us a place of broad rivers and streams"?8 And of the Messianic age and the Messianic mercy he is evidently speaking when he writes: "There shall be upon every high mountain and upon every high hill 1 Isa. lv. 1. 2 Isa. xxii. 2. s Isa. xxxiii. 21. rivers and streams of waters in the day of the great slaughter when the towers fall;"1 and again when he writes: "In the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert; and the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water;"'2 and again when he writes: " I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water;"3 and again when he writes: " The beasts of the field shall honor me, the dragons and the owls, because I give waters in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people--my chosen;"4 and again when he writes: " They shall not hunger nor thirst, neither shall the heat nor the sun smite them; for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them;"6 and again when he writes: "The Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones; and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring whose waters fail not."' And Ezekiel's vision of the living waters flowing from the temple, and deepening and widening as they flow, is manifestly Messianic;7 and so is Zechariah's prediction " that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem, i Isa. xxx. 25. 2 Isa. xxxv.
