This first book in the classic Solar Queen series is richly illustrated to enhance the readers' enjoyment. This handy repackaging of the Solar Queen space opera novels by Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America grandmaster Andres Norton (A/K/A Andrew North) contains the first book in the series, Sargasso of Space. It recounts the adventures of Dane Thorson, a lanky young Cargomaster Apprentice on the Solar Queen, a battered tramp spaceship classified as a Free Trader. Reporting to Cargomaster Van Rycke, Dane is an enthusiastic, yet still awkward, space recruit out for the challenge of a lifetime as the crewmen bang about the universe like futuristic long-haul truckers -- giving no second thought to danger. With nearly two-dozen new illustrations."show more

About Andre Norton

Often called "The Grand Dame of Science Fiction and Fantasy," Andre Alice Norton (nee Alice Mary Norton) also wrote under the pen names of Andrew North and Allen Weston. Practically minded, she knew science fiction books by men sold better to the male fan base. Nonetheless, Norton was the first woman to become a Gandalf Grand Master of Fantasy, the first woman to become a Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America Grand Master, and the first woman to be inducted into the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame. In 1998 she won the World Fantasy Award for Lifetime Achievement."show more
