Julia McDermott grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and earned a B.A. in Economics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. At age twenty-two she married the love of her life, worked for several years in banking and IT, and then stayed home to raise her four children. When the youngest was in middle school, she began writing, but later took time off when her son Jack was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2010.
