About Daryl Jay Eigen

Biography: Daryl Eigen Daryl served in the US Marine Corps Infantry in Vietnam (66-67) and was awarded 3 Purple Hearts, the Combat Action Ribbon, among others. He authored a well-received war memoir, "A Hellish Place of Angels," available everywhere. Daryl received a bachelors in a double major: Psychology and Math, and a masters in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He invented an algorithm for NASA to analyze satellite data and created a software implementation of a neural network under a special science grant. He later received a PhD in Engineering from Northwestern University under a full Bell Labs scholarship. Daryl had a successful career in high tech communications. He joined Bell Labs where he created popular telephone services such as Calling Card Service, the partial automation of collect (the first network application of voice recognition), and others. In addition, he and his team created a new network node that measures the health of the intelligent network in real time. Working for several companies, including Siemens, he helped pioneer the digital optical network that underlies the internet. Daryl authored numerous publications and talks and held a number of senior positions, such as senior vice president of the International Division of a Fortune 100 company, and CEO of several venture-funded high-tech companies. After retiring from his corporate career in 2007 he obtained a 2nd Master's degree in Psychology from Sofia University. For several years he contributed his time to DePaul, a low-income alcohol and drug rehabilitation center serving vets, and currently enjoys traveling, biking, hiking and writing. His highest accomplishment was marrying Jeevani Lucy Eigen, a beautiful, smart, and loving woman.
