Tahir McNeil is faced with some serious life challenges as a maturing young man growing up in a Connecticut city. In the midst of trying to find his place in the world, he's unwillingly tasked with trying to hold together his crumbling nuclear family.Just fresh off of the corner and a recent high school graduate, Tahir learns that his mother has been diagnosed with cancer and that his once successful father is a furtive drug addict. Due to the unforeseen circumstances that has torn his family apart, he resorts to the streets and extreme measures to keep his household afloat. Already dealing with enough on his plate, Katara, Tahir's sister, manages to get herself tangled in a web that involves her brother's best friend. Through his poetry, Tahir struggles to find the reason behind his family's affliction.
