Never allow your mind to dwell upon your symptoms. Think as little as you can of your illness. Do not be always brooding over your aches and pains. Try to forget them, if possible, by occupying your thoughts with other things. If every one would attend to these directions, doctors would have much less to do than they have now. The number of sick persons in the world would be diminished by one half.-But, whilst we urge upon you the importance of doing all that lies in your power for the preservation and the restoration of your health, we must not fail to remind you that, "Except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain." We may take every precaution, and we may use our best endeavours to preserve our health, but if the Lord's hand is not stretched out to protect us, our efforts will be of no avail. If it is the Lord's will that our health should depart from us, nothing that we can do will enable us to keep it. We none of us know what shall be on the morrow; we know not how soon we may be laid upon a bed of sickness, from which no human power can ever again raise us. We must make it a part of our daily prayer, that we maybe "kept in health and safety," that the Lord will "preserve us from all evil," that He will be " our keeper," so that the "sun shall not smite us by day, nor the moon by night." And, above all, we must ask for grace to use the good gift of health in His service, so long as He sees Psalm cxxvii. 1. fit to continue it to us; and when the shadows of evening fall, and we are reminded, by increasing infirmities, that our time is short, we must still do what we can, more
