Description

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Actenochroma is a genus of moth in the family Geometridae. It consists of only one species, Actenochroma muscicoloraria, which is found in Brunei, China, India, Indonesia (Kalimantan, Sumatra), western Malaysia and Nepal.Adults are fairly uniformly palish green, with wavy antemedial and dentate postmedial lines which are darker green, each forming a dark green spot on the costa of the forewing. The geometer moths or Geometridae (from Greek geo or 'the earth' and metron 'measure' refers to the larvae, which appear to "measure the earth" as they move in a looping fashion) are a family of the order Lepidoptera. A very large family, it has around 35,000 species of moths described, and over 1,400 species from 6 subclasses indigenous to North America.cite_ref-bugguide.net_0-1 A well-known member is the Peppered Moth, Biston betularia, which has been subject of numerous studies in population genetics. Several other geometer moths are notorious pests.show more
