Excerpt from Act of the Associate Presbytery, Concerning the Doctrine of Grace: Wherein the Said Doctrine, as Revealed in the Holy Scriptures, and Agreeably Thereto, Set Forth in Our Confession of Faith and Catechisms, Is Asserted and Vindicated
Wherefore, the Prefbytery do bereby declare and (ﬂirt That the go/pel, properly and firietly taken, as contradifiinel from the law, ' is a promi/e containing glad tidings of a Saviour, with grace, mercy and falvation in him, to loft finners of 'ﬂdam's family; and confequently, all precepts (thefe of faith and repentance not excepted) do in a firie't and proper fenfe belong to the law. That, as the fuﬂering of Jefus Chrift our Surety, is the be liever's only plea, in anfwer to the law's demand of fatigfaelion to juftice; fo the complete and perfect conformity of the Surety to the law, in nature and lye, is the believer's only ple'apin anfwer to the law's demand of perfect obedience.
