('/eand iest ln A series ol communications, freshly received from Mr. Anderson, justifies, in ree"fed tUr 'u8t every essential particular, the anticipations thus formed, assuring me, as these MH-ent y u ar' communications do, that abuse of every kind has received an immediate and effec-"anj6 o tual check, as a first consequence of his mission; and that he has received the ', 'p a most cordial and unreserved support of the Indian Government, for carrying into immediate operation every provision of Her Majesty's Order in Council, hitherto but imperfectly subscribed to, through casual misconstruction admitted, on the one hand, by the Indian authorities themselves, and on the other, through pressure of the urgent wants of the colony, which could, at the outset, be only adequately provided for through the channel of individual mercantile speculation. The main points already decided upon between the Governor-General in Council and Mr. Anderson, acting on the part of this Government, are: 1. That from the 1st of January next, the only authorized port of emigration from British India to Mauritius, without leave specially obtained for the purpose from the Government of India, shall be that of Calcutta. 2. That such emigration shall be carried on from that date, under the complete and undivided control of an agent appointed and paid by the Mauritius government. 3.
