Our customer reviews

Whether you call it hiking, which is the typical North American usage, tramping or simply rambling, walking is a great way to stay fit and healthy and a pastime beloved of millions. The AA 1001 Walks in Britain: The Ultimate Collection of Britain's Best Walks is a fantastically broad selection of walks, of lengths between 2 and 10 miles, in all areas of the country. Presented in a lovely box ring binder, with 3 walks on each facing page, and with a clear plastic wallet provided to keep your map clean and readable when you are out in the countryside, this is a comprehensive and easy to use guide.

Covering Wales and Scotland, as well as all the English regions, the maps clearly indicate the steepness and difficulty of each of the walks which themselves are differentiated into 10 different themes (architecture/urban, famous footsteps, historic, industrial heritage, mystery/ancient, nature/woodland, parkland, rural, spectacular and wilderness). Minimum times are given for the walks and places to park are clearly indicated. The small maps that accompany each of the walks do, however, leave a lot to be desired. And the walk descriptions could certainly sometimes be a little clearer. But for an overview of some of the best short walks in the country, and as an aid for deciding on some great days out, the AA 1001 Walks in Britain takes a lot of beating.
