"41" poems is Jose R. Funes' first book of poetry. This book is a collection of poems written over the last four years. The majority of the poems are written in a journal fashion, it is this calendar-like sequence around which the book and its content is organized. "This book was borne in both style and content out of the inspiration of my own life, its daily activity and everyday conversations. To me it is this vernacular language that makes poetry accessible. Common language can be as exalted as the formal. When language is at its most personal it is then that it is also universal. Our plain language when properly expressed, is as athletic as it is beautiful, it is as complex as it is simple."
