This was the milestone 25th year of the BDO World Championship. England's John Walton was the defending champion and number 1 seed, but was knocked out 3-2 in the second round by Colin Monk. A surprise name, hemophiliac Tony David from Australia became the World Champion, defeating number 4 seed Mervyn King 6-4 in the final.
