About Gawain Barker

Gawain Barker grew up in Fiji and immigrated to Australia at age sixteen. He started cooking professionally in tropical North Queensland and then spent the next twenty-eight years cooking up a storm in a huge variety of restaurants, private homes, cooking shows, music festivals and resorts. From Australia to Canada, from England to Switzerland, Gawain has learnt a multitude of culinary styles, cooking techniques and psychological tricks - things all crucial to kitchen work. From celebrity chefs such as Rick Stein and Ainsley Herriot to tattooed furry feral freaks, Gawain has worked with the biggest cast of kitchen characters imaginable, and dealt with the most bizarre situations. The Australian Society of Authors lists him as an Associate Member and so does The Queensland Writers Centre.
