Description

Excerpt from 1976 Annual Report Because the Budget Committee is tasked by law to review expenditures periodically during the year, sub - committees for each department were formed early. An initial review was made of the six - month statement of expenditures.' Subsequently, the sub-committees met with each department, gaining an in - depth understanding of each department which was most help ful in the final preparation of the budget. In addition to the sub-committees for each department a sub - committee was formed to study a capital expansion program for the Town. We asked for, and received from the Selectmen, a preliminary plan. Although not too much progress was made with this plan this year, it is hoped a more definite plan will be available next year. In the meantime the towns people should be aware of the following projections: Municipal Buildings Fire Station, Housing for Ambulance, Town Garage and Storage Yard, Purchase of 15 Newmarket Road and, in the distant future, new Town Offices.
