The Minnesota Vikings are a professional American football team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Vikings joined the National Football League as an expansion team in 1960. They compete in the North Division of the National Football Conference, previously the Western Conference Central Division and the NFC Central Division. The Vikings have played their home games at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis since 1982. Prior to 1982, the team had called Metropolitan Stadium in suburban Bloomington home since their inaugural season of 1961. 1971 was the 11th year of season play for the Minnesota Vikings and the 52nd regular season of the National Football League. The Vikings won the NFC Central title as they finished with a record of 11 wins and three losses, before losing to the eventual Super Bowl champion Dallas Cowboys at home, 20-12, in the NFC Divisional Playoff game.show more
