Excerpt: ... county, in the stead of the first named or eldest trustee, which said first named or eldest trustee shall be, and is by virtue hereof, thencefrom discharged from his oflice. _ XXVII. Am) as rt I-'URTH 'R rznscrzo, That in all cases, upon complaint of the overseer of said work-house, to any trustee for the poor of such work-house, that any rogue, vagrant, vagabond, or other idle, dissolute and disorderly person thereto committed, and therein remaining, hath behaved and demeaned himself in a disorderly manner, or hath neglected and refused to do and perform his or her daily labour and task, or hath neglected or refused to obey, keep and observe, any of the ordinances, rules and by-laws, of the said corporation, it shall and may be lawful for such trustee to order and direct such moderate and proper correction, not exceeding thirty-nine lashes for any one offence, to be given to any such offender, as the nature of the case shall require. By 1799, eh. 65. the trustees are empowered to keep ten out-pensioners, and to allow tn each annually a sum not exceeding thirty dollars. By 1809, ch. 84-. the number is increased to thirty. The powers vested by this act in the trustees are transferred to the lcvy courts of Baltimore county, by 1805, ch. 95.
