  • Alex

Alex Sore, our Publishing Manager, is reading...
One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Alex says, "Goodness knows how long it'll take me actually to finish this one. Its been on my bookshelf for a while but now I've finally taken the plunge. It's a classic -- and I love this kind of tangled, enchanted, passionate tale -- but you know when there is a family tree at the beginning to help you follow the story it's only going to get more complicated! I've got into it enough to love it, but I just hope I can persevere and actually finish the darn thing."

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest by Stieg Larsson
Will says, "Audio books are perfect for the daily commute. I listened to the first two of Larsson's trilogy in quick succession. The third book is another exhilarating ride and I'm keen to find out Salander's and Mikael's fate in this roller coaster story."

    New Moon by Stephenie Meyer

This is another fantastic book by Stephanie Meyer. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a bit of romance with a dark twist."

The Hell of it All by Charlie Brooker

    Mark

Mark Thwaite, our Editor, is reading...
    Invisible by Paul Auster
Mark says, "Paul Auster is back with another of his clever, complex but utterly compelling metafictions. This tale of the aspiring poet Adam Walker and the enigmatic Frenchman Rudolf Born is his best book for years -- and Auster sets the bar very high, so that is saying something!"

    Gemma

Gemma Sinclair, our Junior Web/CSS Designer, is reading...
The Private Lives of Pippa Lee by Rebecca Miller
Gemma says, "It is a compelling story which is beautifully written.I found myself totally captured by Pippa's life. At first the book seems like the average tale of a middle-aged, middle class American woman, however Rebecca Miller fills her characters with a sufficient combination of quirks and ordinariness for the novel to be engaging and unpredictable. A good read with a sad end and nice twist to the plot"

    Tom

The Ascent of Money by Niall Ferguson

Ferguson takes an extremely complex and diverse topic, brings it all together and makes it wonderfully accessible -- even Customer Service Managers can get to grips with it! A fascinating book, made even more relevant by the extraordinary events of the past 15 months."

With Thursday already part of the BookWorld Police along with Mrs.Tiggy-winkle from Peter Rabbit, just to name one, only she knows the true intentions of Goliath. Semantic Web for the Working Ontologist

The book has lots of good real world examples and its almost-chatty prose make it an easy read on what can be quite a complicated subject."

This time he's tackling football (forgive the pun) mixed in with what appears to be (Footballer) Romeo and (WAG) Juliet. Funny as ever and always insightful, The Unseen Academicals promises more of the same and there's nothing wrong with that -- why change a winning formula?"
