Reviews for Creole Belle
Wonderful book!
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. James Lee Burke writes in a truly 'filmic' style, with enormous ability to give the reader a 'fly-on-the wall' capability.
The main character (and narrator) Dave Robicheaux and his side kick,Clete Purcel,
manage to get in the way of some extremely nasty and evil people. What I love about this author, is his ability to give the reader a great sense of social justice being denied, either by big business, and the fallout suffered by the environment and the inhabitants of the deep south. The well-read reader will savour the references to philosophy, and the finely drawn descriptions of the people and landscapes the protagonists inhabit. I also found wry humour in some situations, and I did chuckle
at the writing from time to time. I sincerely hope that Mr Burke can give his readers more books of this calibre in the future. There is truth and honesty in writing of this quality.
Vale, Mr Burke, and a huge 'thank-you!' (would make a great film!) by Janice Margaret Warne
