Reviews for A Love Story Starring My Dead Best Friend
Good thing I changed my mind!
*****(Some)Spoilers ahead*****
When I first started reading this book, I thought, "Hmm...I don't think I'll read it through the end" because I didn't really like where the story was going. The "Now" and "Then" part also annoyed me in the beginning as the story was going back and forth between the present and the past. But I pushed through and actually finished the book.
It was good that I read it till the end as it was the in the middle section of the book that sparked my interest to keep going. The perseverance of the main character got to me and how the accident of her best friend really affected her and this was echoed all throughout the book. I also liked the context the author used about topics such as friendship, homosexuality, grieve and the like.
I like how the lesbianism in this book was done gently. It wasn't the usual in-your-face approach that you see in some books. It was played out beautifully and it was actually touching.
And I was happy not only for Cass but for everyone else in the drama team especially Ollie that they achieved what Julia and Cass wanted to do in the first place. They reached their destination and even though Julia wasn't alive anymore, her presence was still there- her ashes. by Venette
