Blast of an ending
Stross is good at unpredictability of his plot lines, however this is the final book of a series, so there is not much freedom in how it could actually go, isn't is? And still Stross manages to pull some wonderful twists and turns in the story line leading the reader down a highway and then having it end abruptly and lead the reader in jumping off the side of the road, because the highway was unsustainable in the world that the previous events created.
The story lines get resolved one way or another and it all makes perfect sense, and yet you know that there can, and will, be more stories to tell after the author has a bit of a rest from this epic.
In the end I can say that this series put all together in a single book is really, really epic. On par with the best of them, on par with Lord of the Rings and Dune. It starts much closer to our reality and goes of further, much further then others and then comes back for another dose of the horrors of our everyday lives. All in all - a solid piece of work. by Aigars Mahinovs
