I'm Loving Books This book was awesome. Definitely my favorite in the series so far. It has everything: action, romance, solid story, twists and turns, emotion, and of course the lovely Merit. I felt like this was truly the strongest in the series so far, and it had that little extra oomph the previous ones were lacking to make the full-on five star mark.

It's pretty rare for an urban fantasy or even paranormal romance book to make me tear up. Actually, it takes a pretty darn emotional book for that to happen for me. But I cannot believe that I actually teared up during this book at a couple points. I won't get into why, but I will say that this book is sort of an emotional roller-coaster for those invested in the characters. It made me happy, sad, giddy, angry, and everything in between. Which is of course a good thing, but during those sad/angry moments I was definitely not feeling the love. lol

In this book shifters from all over the world have come to Chicago for ConPack -- a convention for all the Packs throughout the world. But it's not just a happy-go-lucky event this time around. Shifters are on the verge of making a big decision: to head to their homeland in Alaska in an effort to avoid the upcoming war they feel is coming between humans and vampires, or staying where they are to fight alongside vampires. There are a lot of prejudices between the supernaturals in this world so the decision will definitely not be unanimous. In fact, the decision itself might just cause a war of its own.

So the storyline was very good and keeps you on your toes in this one. I didn't want to put it down because it has lots of action and a go-go-go kind of feel -- which I love. But aside from the plot itself, Merit's relationship with Ethan is also a big part of this story. It may be tough between them, but the sparks are definitely there and it's getting to be pretty difficult for either of them to ignore. I definitely loved this part of the story and it's about time we got some more Merit/Ethan time on the page!

Overall this was a solid book. Like I said above, my favorite in the series so far. It's very well rounded in that we get a really good storyline that you want to read more about, we get more romance than in the previous books, lots of action, and lots of emotion too. I can't wait to read the next one and see what happens! These are just getting better and better. by I'm Loving Books

TeensReadToo Merit and her Master vampire have a love-hate relationship. Merit isn't sure how to evolve apart from the relationship, and she's not sure she wants to try. However, something more important catches the attention of the vampire community - the arrival of the werewolves for a meeting about their future.

The Alpha werewolf extends the hand of interest to Ethan Sullivan and Merit. They attend a meeting of the werewolf clan heads, only to find tempers raging and the night ending with disaster.

Now, Ethan and Merit must act as guards for the Alpha while trying to untangle an attempted murder, as well as figuring out the future for the werewolves and thus the entire paranormal community. In a previous war, the werewolves let the vampires take on the humans. Now that the world might be on the brink of war once again, will the werewolves stay and fight, or will they disappear like they did before?

With tensions at a boiling point, Merit's having issues finding an outlet from work. Work is crazy. Her love life is a disaster. She's in a fight with her best friend. Will all these issues add up to Merit doing something reckless and endangering herself?

An adult novel from a crossover author (Ms. Neill's YA debut was FIRESPELL) and the third in the CHICAGOLAND VAMPIRES series that's hard to put down. There are so many things I love about this series, but mostly it's the relationships: Merit and her relationship with Sullivan - the snark and verbal sparring and their tension, Merit and Mallory's relationship, and Merit vs. the world.

I can't wait for the next book in the series! by TeensReadToo

Julie Cooke I only just discovered this series about six weeks before this book was published. I bought and read books 1 and 2 within a week of each other, and then scoured the internet for every scrap of information I could find about the new book. It was well worth the wait. Merit is back, and is getting used to her vampire powers. Her city is about to play host to a convocation of shapeshifters, and Ethan (her Master Vampire) has offered their leader the services of his Sentinel - Merit. Playing bodyguard for such a person is definitely interesting. Over the course of the book the stakes continue to get higher as tensions are raised between supernaturals... and watch out for some interesting interaction with a certain green eyed Master vampire. :D Read it! It's immensely enjoyable. by Julie Cooke
