Reviews for Unholy Ghosts
Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane Review
Unholy Ghosts is the first novel in the Downside Ghosts series by Stacia Kane.
Almost immediately, I was drawn into the story of Chess Putnam and "The powerful Church of Real Truth". This is an amazing book. Starting off, I knew
I'd like it, but I didn't realize how much. I honestly haven't read a Urban Fantasy I liked this much in a while.
Terrible is my favorite character by far. He reminded me of a character that J.R Ward would write. A strong, hugely built misunderstood man. He sort of
reminded me of Zsadist, which really made me love him. He's a man you have to look twice at to realize his beauty, unlike most novels male lead. He is someone I really hope to see more of in Chess's life. He's my new favorite male character of the month, that's for sure.
First description of Terrible:
His crooked nose-it must have been broken several times-the way his brows jutted out like a
cliff over the ocean, the set of his jaw.
Second description of Terrible:
It was strange to see him without a shirt on, though. Chess tended to think of his bowling shirts as armor,
and stripped of them he...well, he still looked like a tank.
A surprisingly attractive tank. Tattoos and scars decorated his bare skin and a patch of thick dark hair spread over his chest and dipped down in a thin line to his waist, but underneath them was solid, sculpted
muscle, exquisitely delineated, obviously created from real work and not trips to a gym.
Chess is also an amazingly written character. She's a good looking woman, covered in special Church-sanctioned tattoos and has a strong ability and
affinity for hunting and Banishing ghosts. She's a drug addict with a Betty Page hair style. Even though I'm not a fan of the drug part(but didn't mind
reading it), I love the idea of her Betty Page haircut. Very original for a Urban Fantasy character. I love it.
Another thing I like about Chess is that she isn't some tough, fighter chick. She's brave, smart and strong willed, but not a fighter. Even though I like many reads with a kick-ass heroine, I enjoyed this way for a change.
Lex is another story. Handsome, he is, but don't know quite what to think of him. Do I think he actually feels something for Chess? Yes. But I think he has alternative motives behind his feelings, and I don't' think it's going to end well for Chess. I'd like to say I hope I'm wrong, but I want Chess to be with Terrible, so I really hope something makes that happen! LOL
The novel is well paced, and never boring. It's a dark Urban Fantasy that will keep you on your toes and makes you beg for more. I read this all last night, and didn't go to sleep until 3 in the morning, because I honestly could not bring my self to stop. I needed to know what happened next, and I needed to
know right then! I'm going to be reading Unholy Magic tonight, I hope there's more Terrible and Chess action. *crosses fingers*
So, if your a fan of Dark/Urban Fantasy with a bit of paranormal romance, then this is the book for you. I wouldn't miss out of this book if I were you!
