Reviews for A Kiss at Midnight
Fairy Tale Twist
My summary of the book - Having been forced to attend an event with her stepsister's betrothed to get approval for the wedding Kate's life changes forever. She meets her Prince Charming but unfortunately we can't stand the man and they soon clash. Attraction grows between the pair but it is useless as Gabriel needs to marry a rich bride who is on the way to him. Can things change in time for him to choose the right woman for him.
Thoughts on the characters - Kate is a strong woman who has been stuck with a evil stepmother hell bent on destroying the life that Kate's family has worked hard for. When the ridiculous plan for Kate to take her stepsister's place at the ball, to get approval for the wedding that needs to take place soon, she fights hard but her stepmother knows her weakness and plays on it. Kate has to agree so she can get help for one of the tenants on her family's land. When she arrives at the castle her life changes forever as she meets a godmother she never knew existed and meets an arrogant Prince. Soon though she is charmed by Gabriel even though she fights it with her might and can't help her feelings towards the man that she could never have as he needs a rich bride not a poor one like her. She is feisty and entertaining as she tries to be her sister who is completely different but her true personality comes outs in front of Gabriel.
Gabriel finds it hard to understand why Kate isn't falling for his charms and it makes him go after her even though his bride is on her way to him. Kate isn't his type but the way she plays him and doesn't bow down to him, he really starts to take an interest. When he finds out who she really is his responsibilities to his land and people take over as he needs his rich bride to help him maintain the estate and make it profitable. But he just can't get Kate out of his head.
Overall thoughts - Loved this as it brought the story of Cinderella to life again but twisting it up so it was a refreshing read where you didn't know what was going to happen next. Very amusing and engaging where I couldn't put it down and just had to read it straight through just to find out what was going to happen between Kate and Gabriel. by Leanne Lingwoodunder review
This was the 1st Eloisa James book I read & I totally enjoyed it. Stayed up reading till 3am 2 nights running on a working night no less; reading till I finished.
The storyline is Cinderella-ish; wicked stepmother, stepsister (not-evil at all but most dim!), hero who is a prince, glass slippers too!
The characters are very like able (NOT the stepmother of course), it was humorous & touching in parts. I loved the chemistry between the heroine & the hero.
I'm looking out for more of her books now. by Linda

A Kiss at Midnight
Note: This is not a review - I just like to know a bit about books that I am interested in buying and thought you might like that info as well - the following details have come from Eloisa James' website. P.S. I have not read this book but have loved all her other books!
Miss Kate Daltry doesn't believe in fairy tales... or happily ever after.
Forced by her stepmother to attend a ball, Kate meets a prince... and decides he's anything but charming. A clash of wits and wills ensues, but they both know their irresistible attraction will lead nowhere. For Gabriel is promised to another woman-a princess whose hand in marriage will fulfill his ruthless ambitions.
Gabriel likes his fiancé, which is a welcome turn of events, but he doesn't love her. Obviously, he should be wooing his bride-to-be, not the witty, impoverished beauty who refuses to fawn over him.
Godmothers and glass slippers notwithstanding, this is one fairy tale in which destiny conspires to destroy any chance that Kate and Gabriel might have a happily ever after.
Unless a prince throws away everything that makes him noble...
Unless a dowry of an unruly heart trumps a fortune...
Unless one kiss at the stroke of midnight changes everything. by Jendrunder review
